Three plans, one number that matters: how many AI generations you get per day. This tutorial explains what a "generation" is, what resets and when, the exact messages you will see at a limit, and what happens between pressing Start 7-day free trial and seeing a plan badge on your dashboard.
The three plans as the pricing page states them
| Free | Pro | Max | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $9/mo | $19/mo |
| Apps | All 11 apps | All 11 apps | Everything in Pro |
| AI generations | 10 per day (5 without an account) | 100 per day | 500 per day |
| Also listed | Progress saved on this device | Priority support | Most capable AI model |
| Trial | – | 7 days free | 7 days free |
The paid cards add: "Free for 7 days, then $9/mo incl. VAT" (or $19/mo). "Cancel any time before the trial ends and you won't be charged."
Notice what is not on the list, deliberately: no cloud sync, no export, no API, no extra seats. Those were removed from the pricing page because they do not exist in the product. On every plan your journal, habits and goals stay in your browser on this device (see how BrainLoop works).
What counts as one generation
A generation is one completed request to the AI from any of the five AI-powered apps:
- an Oracle question
- a Financial Advisor question
- a Flashcards deck from the Generate button
- a Journal prompt request, whether you press New prompt or the app fetches one automatically after you save an entry
- a Tarot reading, which runs once per three-card draw
Things that are free and uncounted: flipping and grading flashcards, playing Trivia or Word Puzzles, the Focus Timer, ticking Habits, nudging Goals, adding Finance rows, and writing or saving journal text itself. Only the AI call counts.
Only completed generations are recorded. If the model fails to return a usable flashcard deck, for example, you see an error and nothing is logged against your allowance.
When it resets
The daily count resets at midnight UTC, not at your local midnight. For someone in London that is midnight in winter and 1 a.m. in summer; for someone in New York it is 7 or 8 p.m.; for someone in Sydney, late morning. If you hit a limit in the evening, the reset may be sooner than you expect.
Who the limit is attached to
- Signed in: the count is tied to your account, so it follows you across browsers and devices.
- Signed out: the count is tied to your network address. On a shared office or campus connection, other people on the same address share the 5-a-day pool with you. Creating a free account moves you onto your own 10-a-day count.
The messages you will see, word for word
| Situation | Message |
|---|---|
| Signed out, 5 used today | Daily demo limit reached. Sign up for more. |
| Signed in, plan limit used | Daily limit reached for your plan. Upgrade for more. |
| Site-wide daily AI spend ceiling reached | Daily AI budget reached. Try again tomorrow. |
| AI provider down or not configured | AI is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. |
Where you see them differs by app. Oracle and Advisor print the message as a chat bubble. Flashcards shows it as an amber notice under the Generate box. Journal and Tarot do not show it: Journal quietly gives you one of its built-in prompts, and Tarot keeps the traditional card meanings on screen. So if the Journal prompt suddenly looks familiar, you may have reached your limit for the day.
The third row is worth a word. BrainLoop sets a ceiling on what the whole site may spend on AI in a day, shared across all users, and if that ceiling is hit everyone sees the budget message until the UTC reset. It exists so the product cannot run up an unbounded bill. It is a rare message, but it is a real one.
What the paid tiers change in the answers themselves
Each plan uses a different AI model and allows a different maximum answer length. Free uses the fastest, smallest model with the shortest cap; Pro moves to a larger model with a longer cap; Max uses the most capable model available to the product with the longest cap. In practice this means longer Oracle answers and fuller Tarot readings as you move up, and a model that reasons more carefully on Max. The number of flashcards per deck (six) and journal prompts per request (three) is the same on every plan.
How checkout works, step by step
- Press Start 7-day free trial on the Pro or Max card.
- Sign in first. A subscription has to belong to an account. If you are signed out you are sent to the sign-in page and returned to the pricing section afterwards.
- Stripe Checkout opens. BrainLoop uses Stripe for payments; your card details are entered on Stripe's page, not ours. The checkout is for the monthly price; there is no annual option on the pricing page today. Promotion codes can be entered at checkout if you have one.
- Trial starts. The subscription begins with a 7-day trial. You are not charged during those seven days. If you cancel before they end, you pay nothing.
- You come back to the home page. Stripe sends you to brainloop.quest after a successful checkout (or back to the pricing section if you cancelled).
- Your plan activates. Stripe notifies BrainLoop, which stores the subscription against your account. From that moment the AI routes apply the Pro or Max limit, including during the trial.
Seeing and managing your plan
Open the dashboard (sign-in required). The badge next to your name reads Free plan, Pro plan or Max plan. On Free you see an Upgrade button. Once a paid subscription exists you see Manage billing, which opens Stripe's billing portal for your subscription; the Manage your subscription link at the bottom of the pricing page goes to the same place. That portal is where you cancel or change the plan, and it returns you to the dashboard afterwards.
If you have a paid plan but no Manage billing button, it usually means the plan was granted without a Stripe customer record; contact support via the contact page.
Frequently asked
Does the trial need a card? Checkout is handled by Stripe and runs as a subscription with a 7-day trial; follow the Stripe page's own instructions, which are authoritative for what it asks of you.
Do unused generations roll over? No. The count is per UTC day and starts again at zero.
I upgraded mid-day; does my limit change immediately? Yes. The tier is looked up on every AI request, so the new limit applies on your next question.
Does Pro back up my journal? No. No plan adds cloud storage or sync. Entries stay in the browser they were written in.
Can I use BrainLoop without paying at all? Yes. All eleven apps are open to everyone; the plans change only the AI allowance and model.
For the apps themselves, start with the first-week walkthrough, or go straight to pricing if you have already decided.
